The protagonist of the game is Xion, a prominent archaeologist at the Pandemonium Institute. Even with his achievements, Xion remains an outsider in a culture that celebrates magical skills since he cannot wield magic.

He is a troubled youth due to his father's absence, Xion's life abruptly changes when he learns that his father may still be alive. Xion is forced to choose between listening to the high chancellor of the Institute and his own gut feeling, so he sets off on a dangerous journey that might permanently change his fate.

More than anybody, including the Devils who make fun of him at the Institute, Caim has known Xion for a very long time. Before their different vocations tore the two young Devils apart, he was Xion's buddy and protector.

Belial - The Mysterious Chancellor

From the time Xion entered the Institute, Belial, in spite of his secrets, has been a source of support and direction. 

Will the young demon follow the Chancellor of the Institute himself and stand alongside Belial in his cloak of mystery, or will he rebel and hope that forgiveness finds him later?
